In 2022, and beyond, the Ecorse Historical Society will launch its Veterans History Project to document the military service of all veterans with ties to the Ecorse community. Men and women are eligible for inclusion in the Project if they ever resided or attended school here, or if they are buried in the cemetery here. Through the generous participation of veterans and their families and descendants, we want to identify local veterans to date. The letters, diaries, photographs and memorabilia related to their service show their sacrifices and bring their stories to life in a personal way. We encourage veterans to participate in our oral history program and many of those personal narratives will published in our journal and highlighted in our newsletter, Roots and Branches. Biographies of our World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Afghanistan veterans will be compiled in a book, Ecorse in the Wars - Hometown Heroes. A selection of veterans’ stories will be featured here.
